Process for Dividing Basketball Teams:
In order to preserve the youth sports program and to make the team selection fair for all participants, the Youth Committee has developed the following procedure for team selection:
The YMCA Sports Director will divide the teams in the Rookies and Tiny Mites age groups. This will be done as equally as possible according to age and ability, not by requests.
In all other age groups, teams will be selected by a draft involving the coaches.
Basketball Policies:
*Registration begins the first week of October and ends the first week of November.
*Clinics will be held the first two weeks of November of all leagues.
*Teams will be drafted as soon as possible after the clinics.
*Pre-season team practices will be held until the regular season games begin.
*Games will begin in December and the season will last until February.
*An indoor covered-dish banquet will be held at the end of the season.
*All participants will receive certificates of participation.
Trophies will be awarded to individuals on the first place regular season team (exemption-no trophies in Tiny Mites). The first place regular season team will not play in the play-offs which are held after the season. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of the play-offs. There will be no superlative chosen such as Most Valuable or Most Improved.
All-Star teams will be chosen for the Mites, Girls and Midget Leagues by the following method:
Coaches for the teams will be secured by December. Beginning in early December, open try-outs will be held for interested individuals. Selection of the teams will be made by the coaches and Sports Director.
